Congratulations to Trafalgar ruckman Dylan Farrell who won the Parklea EDFL 2021 Alf Walton medal for the Senior League Best & Fairest. In a thrilling finish Farrell who polled 18 votes won by one vote from Neerim South ruck rover Kody Wilson and Buln Buln ruckman Matt Gray who both tied for second. Poowong on-baller Jack Hazendonk – a dual Alf Walton medallist - finished in fourth place with 15 votes. Farrell, who played in the EDFL for one season with Buln Buln in 2017 returned to the league with Trafalgar this season after a three year stint at Moe. He started the season well with a BOG in the opening round and book ended the season with two consecutive best-ons in the final two rounds after trailing by two votes entering the penultimate round. In all Dylan received five Best on Grounds. His tap work, ability to gather possessions around the ground and stymie many opposition attacks with intercept marks behind centre played a big role in the strong Trafalgar performances – that saw them finish second on the ladder in their debut season in the EDFL.
The Arthur Pollard award for the junior to poll the most votes at senior level was won by Ellinbank’s Bryce Joyce.
For the first time in history the award was an on-line presentation and hence all individual and club winners will be presented with their awards at a convenient time over the upcoming weeks.
The Gerald Heenan Award for the Best and Fairest in the Reserves was won by Nyora stalwart Nick Fairbank with 12 votes from Brad Tilley (Poowong) and Ryan Wouters (Longwarry) who both polled 11 votes.
