AFL hopefuls invited to train ahead of drafts (*updated)
FORMER Melbourne rookie Daniel Hayes is back at his former club, although this time it's after accepting an invite to train with the Demons ahead of the national draft at the end of this month, or the pre-season draft in December.
Hayes is one of almost 50 recently delisted or other AFL hopefuls invited to train with 12 of the 16 clubs as coaches and list managers attempt to replenish their stocks for the 2009 season.
Hayes was Melbourne's second pick (25th overall) in the second round of the 2005 rookie draft. He is one of a handful of Aboriginal boys having a run this month.
Port Adelaide Magpies pair Wade Thompson and George Long, along with North Adelaide's Charlie McAdam, son of St Kilda and Brisbane great, Gilbert, have joined the Power in the hope of perhaps securing a rookie listing.
There are no guarantees with the invite, however.
Port seems the most keen of the AFL clubs, having invited almost a full team of hopefuls -- 18 in total -- for a run this month.
Those keen for a restart, or a new start, in the AFL will continue training where they've been invited until this month’s national draft or up to December's rookie draft.
Most AFL clubs have begun pre-season training in one form or another.
* Daniel's surname, from Hughes to HAYES, corrected. Our apologies.
