NBL1 Women’s Head Coach Charles Nix Departs

The WBA wishes to announce that NBL1 Women’s Head Coach Charles Nix is moving on from his position. Charles informed the club shortly after the Grand Final of his decision. Charles has decided he will be taking a break from coaching all together as he pursues other options in his professional career.Nixy came to the Wolves in 2018 and has made a tremendous impact on the club in his 3 years in green. In 2020 he led the team to the West Coast Classic Championship and in 2021 a birth in the inaugural NBL1 Grand Final.

We are extremely proud of the work Nixy and his team have done in positioning our women’s program as one of the premier teams in the State.

“I’m sad to be leaving the club that I call home, I have loved the Wolves from the moment I walked through the door and have felt nothing but support from the board, members, staff and club in general. It’s a really special place and if not for an opportunity in front of me to continue to grow professionally, I would have happily stayed with this club for my life. I feel fortunate to have coached a fantastic group of women who bought in and worked extremely hard, the success we achieved will be with me forever, and I can’t wait to see the next person take the reins and continue to push the program forward to more success. I would love to see this group stay on and compete at the top of the table for many years to come.” said Charles Nix.

“I love the direction the club is heading and want to thank Andrew Summerville for backing me in over the last couple of years and being that sounding board to help me achieve my goals. I also want to thank the board for appointing me and giving me the freedom and backing to work with this amazing group, I know the privileges we receive at Wolves, and they don’t go unnoticed. I feel like I leave having had the opportunity to impact and leave a positive mark on our club. Hopefully I get a chance to come back in the future” said Charles Nix.

CEO Andrew Summerville said, “It’s very disappointing for us to lose Nixy particularly after such a fantastic 2021 season. After some lengthy discussions we respect his decision to take a break from coaching for a year or two while he purses other opportunities that will help him reach the highest level in his career. He is a fantastic coach with a proven record and replacing him will be a difficult task. Unfortunately, all teams at every level go through significant periods of change at times, so we look forward to the challenge of building the next phase of our women’s program. Our focus will now shift to securing as many of the core players from this year as we can and finding the next Head Coach of our program.

“I would personally like to thank Nixy for all he has done at the Wolves and wish him well in his future endeavors. Hopefully one day Nixy will return to the Wolves in a coaching capacity and continue to build on the legacy he has created at our club”. added Summerville.

The search for Charles’s replacement will begin immediately.
