EDFL 2021 JUNIOR FOOTBALL SEASON CALLED OFF
The EDFL Board of Management (BOM) have agreed there is no alternative but to call off the 2021 Junior Football season as the State Government road map release on Sunday did not set a date when community sport can return to play. The plan indicated it will not be before 26 October and more likely after 5 November at the very earliest – way after our season cut-off date of 2 October.
So it is with regret that the EDFL BOM have had to call off both the Junior and Seniors this season without finals. The BOM tried to buy time with some flexible plans to prolong the season into October but our plans were not possible after yesterday’s announcement. We are unaware of any Victorian league that intend to proceed after the news on Sunday.
The top of the ladder teams in all four grades will be awarded the minor premiership. We will keep all clubs informed on the mode of the Junior and Senior Presentation nights in the upcoming weeks.
The BOM agreed the season cannot be deferred any longer as everybody must be able to get on with their lives. It would like to thank all the clubs in recent months for their patience and co-operation and wish everybody a clean bill of health in the lead up to the New Year and hope in 2022 to be able to roll out a full season. The league will produce an end of year magazine that will review the season and provide all the regular tables and list all award winners.
