- The Men Against Violence project is a partnership project between the WA Centre for Rural Health and the Geraldton Sporting Aboriginal Corporation. It is also supported by Centacare Family Service, and Midwest politicians – Hon Sandra Carr MLC, Lara Dalton MLA, Hon Martin Aldridge MLC, Hon Steve Martin MLC. The round will be taking place on Sat 21st August at both the Geraldton and Northampton Ovals between 10am – 5:30pm. In the past, it was taboo to talk about family violence because it’s an uncomfortable topic to talk about and was considered to be a private matter. However, research has shown that rates of family violence drop when it is tackled as a community issue rather than one to be dealt with privately.
Family violence is too often seen as just a women’s issue, but research has also shown that when men are involved in conversations around prevention, the prevalence of family violence is more likely to be reduced and prevention strategies are more likely to be efective.
Violence is never ok. Everyone should have the right to feel safe and supported, regardless of their gender.
