August 7th return to play
After the announcements made on 27th July 2021, Gippsland League will return to play for both senior and junior competitions on Saturday 7th August 2021. The home and away season will consist of 13 matches with the mental health round scheduled to be played on the first weekend back. The League will implement an adjusted fixture with the scheduled round 13 matches (last scheduled round before all teams have played each other once) taking place the first weekend back in round 16. The matches in the June adjusted fixture for rounds 17 & 18 will take place as originally scheduled. Adjustments to round 18 may be made if crowds are not back in time for round 17 games due to multiple clubs having only played four home matches with crowds so far in 2021.
The return to play on August 7th will be under the AFL Victoria protocols which will include the following as per the updated state government restrictions from Tuesday 27th July 2021.
Community sport
- Open for all ages, training, and competition
- No spectators
- Limited to the minimum number of people to participate and facilitate the sport
- Density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm
- All patrons that enter venues are required to operate under the restrictions set out by the Victoria Government.
The finals series will be played out as scheduled with the qualifying final being played on the 28th August and the Grand Final on 18th September.
Finals qualifications for football and netball have been adjusted in line with a percentage of matches played for 2021 in that grade. Senior football, junior football and junior netball will be 3 matches in the grade and senior netball will be 4 matches in the grade for a player to qualify for finals. All other finals qualification rules and exemptions will remain as per the by-laws.
