As you are no doubt aware, the State Government has announced a state-wide lockdown which takes effect from 6:00pm Tuesday 20 July. As a result, training and sport remains cancelled until further notice. Again, we encourage all members of our football community to remain vigilant in this time of increased risk in South Australia, and follow the advice from SA Health as below:
- Follow stay at home orders, and only leave for essential reasons
- Monitor exposure site locations
- If you have symptoms, even if mild, get tested immediately (and stay home while you wait for your results)
- Wash/sanitise your hands regularly
- Keep 1.5m distance from others wherever possible
- Use COVID Safe Check-In
- Clean frequently touched surfaces.
SANFL will continue to work with Leagues regarding fixturing for the remainder of the season once restrictions are lifted and timing is better understood. Thanks again for your continued efforts in keeping SA safe and compliance with restrictions, and we hope we can resume full activity as soon as possible.

Following the introduction of the AFL's Concussion Policy, resources have been made available for clubs to educate players, coaches and umpires on their duty of care in reducing the potential for head high contact. Prep to Play Everyone in footy has a duty of care. Educate yourself and players about the effect their body can have on an opponent, and how to protect themselves and their opponent. Check out the Prep To Play resources to help further educate yourself and your players: https://coach.afl/prep-play-skills HeadCheck App Have you downloaded the HeadCheck App yet? The HeadCheck concussion App is evidence-based and designed for children and adults and helps adult players, parents, coaches and first aiders recognise the signs of concussion to determine whether medical attention is required and how to manage the safe return to school/study/work, play and organised sport. Learn more about the HeadCheck App here: https://www.headcheck.com.au/

BREAKTHROUGH MENTAL HEALTH MESSAGE
Breakthrough works very closely with the Órama Institute, a multi-disciplinary research institute for mental health and wellbeing at Flinders University. Órama Director Professor Mike Kyrios has been working to develop effective wellbeing interventions that can provide strategies to counter the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis. With the current Stay At Home Direction, you are encouraged to follow the six STREAM tactics below to support your mental health. Please share them with anyone you think would find them valuable: S – Social networking Physical distancing is necessary, but it does not mean social networking cannot exist. Keep in touch with people through social media, phone calls or a text message. T – Time out Take time out from each other when at home for long periods. This will help minimise the ongoing stress of being in a limited space with others. R – Relaxation, mindfulness or yoga Managing anxiety can be helped through breathing, muscular relaxation exercises, mindfulness training, dancing, singing and yoga. E – Exercise and entertainment If you have a space where you can exercise, that’s always a good way to burn off energy. Alternatively, catch up on some reading, streaming services, digital or board games, hobbies, playing music, etc. A – Alternative thinking Understand uncertainty will lead to heightened tension and stress. It’s often useful to think things through, even by talking to someone else, e.g. a friend or a counsellor. We are all in this together. M – Mindful of others Remember, this is a short-term situation and we can all get through if we work together. Maintain caring relationships. Never forget that simple acts of kindness make us feel good about ourselves, the world and the future. Please remember, it is normal to feel stressed, sad or confused during a crisis and talking to trusted family and friends can help. Remain calm and continue your normal routine as much as possible and look after yourself and your loved ones during this time and seek help if you need to. If you need to speak with someone about your mental health, the new SA COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line can be reached on Ph: 1800 632 753.
