Churchill Celebrates 200 Club Appearances
Alice Churchill has today maked a milestone match for Canberra Croatia FC, with a 1-0 win over Canberra Olympic in Round 11 of the NPLW.
“It's really special to be playing my 200th game,” Churchill said.
From being lightheartedly teased about loving a toe poke during a match, to being highly regarded as a kind hearted, loyal friend, Alice’s impact on the club and her team mates is obvious.
“It’s exciting that I have played 200 games at this club and with my friends, I wouldn't have got there without all the people that make the club so great."
Affectionately nicknamed ‘Al’ or ‘Floof’, Churchill started at Canberra Croatia in 2010 and has been instrumental in the development of the women’s program.
“It is amazing to be a part of something as it develops over time and to keep getting more positive results,” she said.
“I have really enjoyed my time with the club, that's why I'm still here after all and I think we've come a long way over the last 10 years.
“From playing my first season where we finished bottom of the table to the 2017 grand final win over Belconnen where we won the first piece of silverware for the club it’s been incredible.”
The biggest change that Churchill has seen over the development of the game is the quality of competition.
“The overall quality of the competition has really improved over the last few years. If you have a look at the quality of the girls that are running around in the NPLW now it’s amazing to see,” Churchill said.
“When I think back to how everything was back in the day, it feels like a completely different competition to what we have now.”
