Wolfpack MVP Rebecca Benson returns
The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves are excited to announce the signing of Rebecca Benson for the 2021 NBL1 West season.
The 5’9” guard is a returning 2010, 2011 and 2015 Wolfpack MVP, leading scorer and 2015 SBL all-star. Throughout Rebecca’s semi-professional career she has played over 200 games in the SBL, played in the WNBL for the Perth Lynx and spent some time playing in the South East Australian Basketball League. Rebecca has already played 2 games with the Wolves and has averaged 9ppg.
Rebecca spoke to the Joondalup Wolves about signing with the Wolves and becoming a part of the NBL1 in 2021.
“I’m so grateful to be back at the Wolves. It’s been a special part of my basketball career so far and I hope to contribute to our goal of taking out the Championship. Nixy, Steve, Brian, Timmy, Kayla, Nes’eya and Alix were all part of a team we were building in 2018, so I’m excited to finally get to actually play with (and for) them, PLUS the talented youngsters coming through. NBL1 is a fantastic opportunity for our young talent to gain invaluable National exposure to help them move towards their WNBL and College dreams.”
Women’s Head Coach Charles Nix shared his thoughts on Rebecca joining the Wolves for the 2021 NBL1 West season.
“It’s really exciting to have Bec come on board, it’s kind of a homecoming as she played with the Wolves a few years ago and now it’s come full circle. I’ve had a really good relationship with her since Perth and was looking forward to coaching her but that didn’t eventuate because she was lucky enough to get pregnant and then came on board and assisted me. I love her IQ and she has a really good understanding of what I’m after as a coach”
“If you look at her history Bec has been an elite shooter at all levels winning 3pt shooting % awards at both State League and National level. She brings a calmness to our group that will really help our younger girls develop and a professionalism that will set a really high standard for us. I’m excited about the extra dimension Bec brings us, great human being from a great family. She’s settled in nicely and will grow into our system and gain fitness as the season progresses.” Added Nixy.
Rebecca joins Alix Hayward, Amy Kidner, Chelsea Belcher, Georgia Denehey, Kayla Steindl, Nes’eya Parker-Williams, Amber Land, Aryaan Horne, Eleanor Hartill, Izzy Miotti, Laniesha Paddon, Olivia Basso, Tahni Geel and Tia Ucich on the Wolves Women’s 2021 roster.
