Just a few things this week
Well done to Paul Trussell and Andrew Buckham who have put their hands up to officiate at Mortlock Shield. We wish them all the best as they show the rest of Eyre Peninsula that our umpies are the best in the Zone. Also a thank you to Craig O'Brien who has stepped up in the last two weeks to help us out in A grade. Craig and Spud were excellent last week and did a great job.
Something to watch out for this week is players encroaching inside the five metre protected zone. We dont need to be anal about it though and ping everyone who steps six inches inside the zone. However what I am seeing is players taking the shortest route to where they are heading and cutting into the protected zone with their hands in the air. I am of the opinion that by raising their hands in the air that they believe thay have become invisible. If anything the hands in the air action is probably more of an interference to the player with the free.
Just a point of interest and something we can discuss amongst ourselves, the Great Flinders Football League has introduced a new rule which they say is in the interests of player safety. Any careless or malicious high contact to the head with actions such as careless striking to the head, fending off with elbows, sling and dumping tackles will result in a free kick to the impacted player and will also now result in an automatic 25 metre penalty.
I haven't forgotten that we have a few uniform orders pending. Hopefully after Mortlock we should have new green umpires gear for Central Eyre United and panel umpires, and also blue & red gear for the new panel umpires.
