A MESSAGE FROM WANNEROO BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION – BASKETBALL GAMES POSTPONED/CANCELLED (30 APRIL 2021
Due to the latest Government restrictions unfortunately ALL basketball games are suspended until 12.01am the 8th of May. Basketball WA and the WBA is disappointed with the Governments decision and clarification around the requirement of wearing masks indoors while exercising (vigorously or not) for the period of 12:01am Saturday 1st May – 12:01am 8th May 2021. (over 12 years of age). The WBA in conjunction with BWA, this afternoon challenged this decision and applied for an exemption but unfortunately the restrictions stand.
In discussions with Basketball WA and other associations, we understand its impractical for basketball games to proceed with players, coaches and referees having to wear masks. It is thus the decision of Basketball WA to postpone all Round 3 and Friday night Round 4 (7th May) NBL1 WEST fixtures and the cancellation of all Round 2 WABL fixtures.
In line with the above the WBA has also decided to postpone ALL domestic competitions due to be played between 12.01am Saturday the 1st and 12.01am Saturday the 8th of May.
Although activities for those under 12 year of age would be able to proceed without masks, we have made the decision to postpone the round for every age group to avoid confusion and for ease of operation as referees and coaches would still need to wear masks.
We understand how frustrating this is for our Basketball community, being the second week in a row games have had to be postponed; however, we will continue to follow the WA Government guidelines.
All WABL and domestic training and Aussie Hoops and other programs can go ahead under the following conditions:
• Masks MUST be worn indoors at all times (Unless under the age of 12)
• A 2 square metre capacity rule is in place for venues.
• If you are unwell, please get tested at one of the COVID WA Clinics.
• Do not attend basketball training or competitions if you have a fever, sore throat, cough, or shortness of breath. Please seek medical advice and get tested.
• Wash your hands regularly.
• Ensure you bring a towel and labelled water bottle to games and training. Avoid sharing food and beverages.
• Sign in using the Safe WA app or contact register in the entry of HBF Arena.
Patrons who do not comply will be asked to leave the venue.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we do all we can to get our members back playing the game. The health and safety of our members is our number one priority, and we will work with all members and
stakeholders to ensure a safe return to our sport.
We will continue to provide further updates and information as it comes to hand.
