Firstly some good news, we have another umpire joining our panel. Darryl Thomas comes to us from the River Murray Football League Umpires Panel, he is a very experienced umpire having umpired A grade grand finals at that level. Darryl is unavailable this week but will join us in Round 4.
This now gives us eight panel members which means every week that two will miss out. In the past injuries have occurred regularly and we also have other interests in our life that at times that need attending to.
The third man up ruck query has taken another turn now. Earlier in the season I received an online rulebook from the SANFL and it is now on the EEFL website. An A grade coach had a query with the 'Third Man Up' rule as it states in the Rulebook that it is illegal. This contradicts our rule from the SANFL that allows it. I will spend some time next week to go through the Rulebook and highlight any AFL rules that are directly in contradiction to SANFL rules.
One more thing I noticed on Sunday is our umpires controlling the 50 metre arcs need to get closer to goal to be side on to the goal square marking contests. You will need to be at least 5- 10 metres from goal to observe these contests with the centre controlling umpire on the edge of the centre square which means that you are only 40 metres apart and the area is still completely patrolled by two umpires. Also lets change over more often, in the first quarter on Sunday only three goals were scored. While there were still 4-5 changes I think we need to rotate more so we don't become too familiar in the one area. Also the centre controlling umpire does the most work so we don't want to leave someone in there for ten minutes and completely knacker them.
This weeks appointments:
Central Eyre United V Cowell @ Wudinna
Andrew Buckham - Tristan Baldock - Paul Trussell
Ports V Eastern Ranges @ Port Neill
Matt Dunn - Darryl Chester - Butch Pfitzner
Good luck for Saturday everyone looks like it might be a bit warm so be prepared.
Cheers
Peter Lines - EEFL Umpire Director
