Harbour players shine in NBL and overseas

The Sal’s National Basketball League began at the weekend with eight former Harbour reps in action – four of them making their debuts.

Brayden Inger, after playing two years in the Western Australia State League, top scored for the Southlands Sharks as they won 84-65 at Nelson Giants. Brayden finished with 15 points and 4 assists in an eye catching performance.

Current Harbour U19 representative Zach Riley (5 points and 6 rebounds) had a fine game for the Auckland Huskies as they pipped Franklin Bulls 99-96 in the Battle of the North.

Also debuting for the Huskies was Sean Murphy (2 rebounds and a steal) with Jett Thompson (2 rebounds) donning Bulls colours for the first time.

Reuben Fitzgerald scored a couple of points for the Huskies while Denhym Brooke (16p/6r), Joseph Nunag (14p/3a) and Jaylen Gerrand (18 points) were all prominent for the Bulls.

Later in the week Alex Talma and Jack Salt will be in tandem for the Canterbury Rams, Scott Telfer will make his Taranaki Mountain Airs debut and Jonno Jannsen will be at Eventfinda Stadium on Friday when the Manawatu Jets meet the Huskies.

In Australia former Harbour Breeze forward Penina Davidson had a doble double of 10 points and 10 rebounds as  Nunawading Spectres defeated Sandringham Sabres 83-70 in the second round of the NBL1 South League.

In the Men’s NBL1 South Mitch Dance scored a team high 28 points (11/19FG) for Albury Wodonga Bandits who lost a close-one, 107-100 to Melbourne Tigers. Mitch also grabbed 9 rebounds with 6 at the offensive end!
