Latest news from college basketball in the States

The NCAA Division I season has concluded for all Harbour athletes except James Moors.

At the Men’s National Invitation Tournament (NIT) James and Colorado State won an exciting contest against Buffalo 75-73 on Saturday.

The former Westlake Boys and Harbour forward scored 11 points (5/10FG) and added 5 rebounds and a brace of assists, blocks and steals.

Colorado State meet North Carolina State in a quarter-final match-up later in the week.

Unfortunately Akiene-Tera Reed and Virginia Commonwealth University bowed out in the first round of the Women’s NCAA Tournament defeated 63-32 by #4 Indiana.

Tera grabbed a team high 9 rebounds but, like her teammates, couldn’t get a lot going at the offensive end finishing with just 3 points.

Tera finishes the season as the second leading scorer for VCU averaging 11.2ppg and can reflect on winning VCU’s first ever Atlantic 10 Tournament title.

Her 4-year career tally is an impressive 1,466 points in 111 games, the third-most points scored in NCAA Division I basketball by a New Zealand player.

Emme Shearer capped a highly productive freshman season at the University of Portland with 9 points (4/7FG) as the Pilots were pipped 67-64 by Cleveland State in the Final of the Women’s Basketball Invitational.

Emme, named to the All-West Coast Conference Freshman team, played all 27 games for Portland finishing third equal in scoring (7.0ppg) and steals (41).

In Junior College Keeley Tini scored a career high 31 points (5/8 3PG, 10/12FT) in Williston State’s 109-64 loss against Dawson College.

Keeley followed that up with 25 points as Williston got back to winning ways with a 77-70 victory against Bismarck College. Jazz Kailahi-Fulu returned, after missing the Dawson game with an ankle injury, to post an impressive 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Keeley is now just three points shy of 300 for the season with Jazz not far behind on 269 points.
