Mikayla Lyons scored twice as Fremantle City got their Women’s NPL Night Series campaign off to a winning start against Subiaco on Friday night.
The 2020 winners struck twice in the final eight minutes of the first half to set up a comfortable 3-0 win at Wormall Civil Stadium.
Lyons got the opener on 37 minutes, while Georgie Ireland added a second a minute before the interval. Lyons completed the scoring 11 minutes into the second half.
That match was followed by another Group A clash between Murdoch University Melville and Curtin University, which went in the favour of the hosts 2-1.
Tia Stonehill gave MUM FC the lead just after the half-hour. Curtin levelled on 67 minutes through Tanya Campos, but it was Murdoch who took the points thanks to Rachel Gillies’ 75th-minute winner.
The two opening Group B matches took place on Sunday at Dorrien Gardens and both finished all square.
There were no goals in the first game between Northern Redbacks and Balcatta. However, it was a different story in the second, with Perth SC and Hyundai NTC sharing four goals in an entertaining tie.
Kate Armstrong gave NTC an early lead, which they held until first-half stoppage time when Liana Cook brought the Azzurri level.
Tess De Leo then put Perth in front which just over half an hour to play, only for Judy Connolly to rescue a point for NTC.
