The first meeting of the newly formed joint committee for
the Ellinbank and District Netball Association (EDNA) and Ellinbank District
Football League (EDFL) was held last week to discuss recommendations and terms
of a merger of the 2 organisations.
The working party is comprised of Lynn Whelan (Chair) as an independent representative, also Jenny Muir and Adam Tyson as independent reps. Baw Baw Shire Councillor Peter Kostos will be the 4th independent member of the group after Council was approached for a delegate to join. The league representatives are Karen Porter (EDNA President) and Rachel Ronaldson (EDNA Vice President) also Madison Louden (EDFL
Secretary) and Ken White (EDFL Vice President).
This was seen as a good balance to move forward with this project after the initial kick off meeting in November last year.
Lynn Whelan was voted in chair on the night, she has some very good insight and experience from when the Alberton League went down the same path around a decade ago. The working group will be meeting regularly to discuss board models for the new organisation, terms of reference, model of governance and an amalgamation schedule. Ultimately anything that the board recommends will have to be ratified by the EDNA and EDFL and their clubs.
A separate recommendation will be the name of the new entity. If the amalgamation goes ahead a
name change is inevitable, but the more contentious issue could be moving away from the Ellinbank and District moniker that has historic significance. Again, this will have to also be ratified by
both organisations.
April 10th, 2021 is the date of the first round of the EDFL and EDNA and is currently the date that the committee would like all clubs to have voted on any recommendations that are tabled.
