Junior Domestic Competition Update
The WBA has made the difficult decision to postpone this round of Junior Domestic Competition (Friday and Saturday). Given the current lockdown is due to end at 6pm Friday night, it was deemed too short of a timeline to communicate and then implement any restrictions or guidelines that may be put in place by the State Government post lockdown and prior to the commencement of the round. To avoid confusion and possible COVID protocol breaches we have decided it is in the best interest of our members to postpone the round.
The Premier has today announced that COVID related requirements for WA are currently being reviewed and updated. A final decision on those requirements will be made on Friday.
There are likely to be some restrictions reintroduced around gathering/venue capacities. At this stage there is no further information on what those capacity requirements will be. It should be noted that given the increase in risk within WA associated with COVID-19, the relevant directions that were in place prior to this outbreak may change, potentially requiring the modification, postponement or cancellation of planned basketball activities.
Without knowing what these restrictions may be and given the short turnaround time between government announcements on Friday and the start of the domestic round, the WBA deemed it necessary to postpone this Friday and Saturdays activities to provide our members with as much notice and clarity as possible. The WBA will endeavour to make up this round at a later date if possible.
A decision on Sundays WABL training and the Senior Domestic Competition will be made on Saturday depending on government announcements, and provided we can meet and implement any restrictions required by the State Government and Venues West.
We will monitor the situation and provide updated information to you as soon as possible. Whilst public health remains our key priority in decision making and we will continue to follow health department advice at all times, all efforts will be made to support the continuation of basketball activity as soon as we can.
