1 February 2021
I hope everyone has enjoyed a break over the last month or so and is now ready to go for the year.
I guess you’ve all been wondering what is likely to happen with football and netball this season as you haven’t had a lot of communication from Cooky or myself for a while. As we are now aware from the latest SANFL communication it is clear that they want change to happen over the next 6-9 months and have something different in place before 2022, whatever that may involve?
As we knew there was a direction to be given from SANFL we have deliberately held off making too many plans for 2021, other than allowing clubs to prepare for the fact that there will be football and netball this season. We have been having thoughts on a likely program and have been working with the netball association to discuss the possibility of perhaps including one or more double headers. Also it is clear that Junior football numbers are very low and how to conduct a viable competition is a significant challenge.
Rest assured we are looking at programming at the moment and hope to have something ready in the next week or two. There is still not a lot of clarity around Interleague games, Kinlough and Norwood Cups, Mortlock Shield and we are waiting on advice from the Zone so as to clear these up.
We intend to hold a league meeting before the end of February and a draft program will need some ratification then.
The number of suggestions for programming that were put forward last year from each club is being considered and we will have some more discussions on some of these soon.
We are working on the premise that we will loosely base the 2021 program on the one that was prepared for 2020 with some tweaks to accommodate some different options.
If there are any other specific requests for home games etc please let me know ASAP so we can accommodate this.
