Football West News
The Men’s NPLWA Night Series starts this weekend with group games at three venues.
On Saturday, Dalmatinac Park hosts a Group A double header. Perth Glory take on Rockingham City at 5pm, followed by Cockburn City against Inglewood United (7pm).
On Sunday also in Group A, Gwelup Croatia meet ECU Joondalup at Percy Doyle Reserve (5pm). This precedes the Group B clash between Sorrento and Balcatta (7pm).
On the same night there are two Group B ties at Dorrien Gardens. First up is Armadale v Floreat Athena (5pm), then comes holders Perth SC against Bayswater City (7pm).
ECU have had a busy few months since lifting the NPL title in October. The Jacks have announced the return of double Gold Medal winner Daryl Nicol from Bayswater, while also bringing in Sorrento’s Czech defender Jakub Prajza, former Perth Glory A-League striker Chris Harold and midfielder Declan Hughes, who was in the Glory AFC Champions League squad following a season at Bayswater.
Other summer moves include striker Cameron Teece’s switch from Sorrento to Perth SC. The Azzurri have also brought in wide man Riley Van Dieken, who was with Fremantle City last year after a season in the NPL with Rockingham.
Bayswater, under new head coach Gareth Naven, have picked up forward Ndumba Makeche from Gwelup, while defender Brent Griffiths heads in the opposite direction. Gwelup also welcome back Ethan Brooks from ECU and signed defender Thomas Southgate from Perth SC.
Dean Cummings, who was with Bayswater in 2020, has joined Sorrento. The Gulls have also reunited with Scott Robertson after the defender had a spell in Melbourne.
Former Balcatta head coach Goran Stajic is now at Rockingham. Before Christmas Rockingham announced they had signed Argentinian forward Ramiro Vilar, who was previously at Kingsley Westside, and Noah Cavanaugh, who was with Fremantle City in 2020.
