SANFL Community Football COVID-19 Update as at 4 August 2020
Overview
Further to the note provided yesterday, please see the below message regarding COVID-19 updates relating to Community Football. In short, following recent announcements by the State Government, there will be restrictions re-introduced related to trading in licenced venues/areas.
Key Changes
The changes are as follows:
- Food and beverage can continue to be purchased by spectators at sporting matches, however while all food and non-alcoholic beverages can be consumed while standing, alcoholic beverages must be consumed while seated.
- In your licenced club venue, patrons must be seated when eating and/or drinking inside or directly outside (beer gardens, balconies etc) the club venue itself.
- In your licenced club venue, food and beverage can be purchased from a service area or similar within the club and then taken to a table. Table service can also be provided.
- Patrons cannot stand or sit and drink at the bar.
These changes will take effect from midnight tonight (Tuesday 4 August 2020), and will remain in place until further notice.
To ensure spectators at football matches comply with the requirement to be seated whilst consuming alcohol, you may wish to encourage attendees to bring their own chair or sit on the ground/benches. We would also advise that you consider printing off the graphic (see attached) to place around your ground.
Please note that while there has been a re-introduction of some restrictions in South Australia, clubs can continue with training and match days as per SANFL Return to Play Protocols.
Protocol Reminder
We remind Clubs to continue with their COVIDSafe measures including:
- hygiene and cleaning practices
- maintaining physical distancing where possible (including limiting non-essential contact such as hand-shakes, high-fives, hugs etc)
- ensuring density limits are not breached in internal spaces
- reminding players/coaches/volunteers/spectators to not attend training or matches if they are unwell (or if they are a close contact of a suspected or confirmed cased of COVID19 or have attended a location identified as a high risk site)
SA Health undertake contact tracing of all positive cases, and will make contact with close contacts (including football clubs) if required.
Remember, the SANFL Return to Play website has a number of resources to assist clubs to continue to provide safe environments such as posters, checklists, ground announcement scripts and social media posts. Updated posters and other resources detailing these changes will be available shortly.
Summary
We appreciate the level of uncertainty and extra work these changing measures will have, however the health and wellbeing of our football community, as well as the wider community is paramount; and we will continue to observe all advice from SA Health.
Thanks again for your efforts in continuing to provide safe environments for our community.
