Murdoch too good for Curtin
Report by Louis Granich
Murdoch University Melville continued their strong start to the 2020 Women's NPL season with a 6-0 win over Curtin University in their Round Four clash.
Friday night’s match saw braces from Katarina Jukic, Stacey Learmont and Ellie La Monte as Murdoch’s forward line ran riot.
The home side raced into an early lead after Jukic was sent through on goal and empathically finished after just seven minutes.
Fifteen minutes later Katie Shubert’s terrific long ball found Learmont on the right wing. Learmont showed plenty of pace and power to find the dynamic Ellie La Monte, who made no mistake from close range.
Curtin came out for the second half looking to get a foothold in the match and enjoyed more possession and showed more poise. However, the Reds' relentless pressure told as Jade Paul was dispossessed by Learmont, who scored with a low strike across the goalkeeper.
Jukic then grabbed her second after latching on to a Danielle Cornish clearance and elegantly chipping the ball past Stacey Cavill.
As the half went on Jukic then dropped into a midfield role alongside the outstanding Jaymee Gibbons and started dictating the play from deep. She played a clever ball out wide to Rachel Gillies, whose brilliant first-time cross was volleyed by Learmont to score the goal of the game.
With five minutes to go, the three goalscorers combined once more for a sixth. Jukic turned in midfield and poked a through ball to Learmont, who unselfishly passed up her chance of a hat-trick to set up La Monte to score into an empty net.
Star player: Katarina Jukic
