Yesterday AFL Victoria released their Return to Small Outdoor Group Training Protocols for all Victorian clubs. The memo provided all clubs with the tools and required guidelines for compliant training sessions to resume on or after 25 May 2020. Note that 25 May is the date that club sanctioned training can resume within the scope of the protocols, but it is not the date that they must start training. When, or if, a club resumes training is at the discretion of the club.
To start training there are many protocols to implement among the key ones clubs must:
- Appoint a COVID Officer.
- Recommend all players, coaches & official download the COVID app.
- Organise a protocol briefing education session for players, coaches and officials.
- Ensure hygiene practices are implemented at club
- Reinforce the hygiene, social distancing and outdoor group training requirements to players, coaches and officials.
- Complete and keep all the record keeping required by the league and health authorities.
- make sure all at every training session it is “Get in, Train & Get Out”
In reference to the Netball – Netball Victoria is governed by Netball Victoria and put out their own set of return to training guidelines separate from AFL Victoria.
AFL Gippsland also advises clubs communicate to their players that a return to training does not guarantee and return to play. The return to training should be seen as a positive step towards renewed community engagement and an important step in the management and welfare of everyone’s mental and physical health and wellbeing.
