The Sports Committee and the Executive Board will review the Sports Programme. The aim is to provide a process by which IF Rules will universally apply to Games and the subjectivity taken in determining the competition programme is removed.
The work will be undertaken by the Sports Committee and will concentrate upon the charter review outcomes and recommendations from the Suva Fiji 2003 Games. A report and associated recommendations is due for the consideration of the Executive Board and the Council during 2005.
The terms of reference for this review are broad and recommendations are expected to cover the size of the Games, the make up and number of compulsory & additional sports, competition format and events selection, quality and depth of competition and qualifying standards, relationships with IFs and their Oceania Continental Association, the Games cycle, coordinating Sport development strategies within the Pacific Community and between the IOC, CGF and SPGC, associated commercial and marketing issues such as product recognition through the sports program.
The Suva Games Organising Committee recommended that events and competition programs should adhere strictly to International Federation rules and, the introduction of qualifying standards be considered to keep the number of participants within manageable levels at future games.
