Club Update 3 - Covid-19

Hi Willetton Basketball Community,

As many of you would be aware over the weekend the WA Premier Mark McGowan has published WA’s road map to recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic as a result of WA’s positive outcomes in recent weeks towards flattening the curve of the Covid-19 virus.

As it stands at present, WA will advance to Phase 2 from 18th May 2020 with a hope that Phase 3 may follow sometime in mid-late June should we as a state continue to experience the favourable infection control outcomes we have done to date.

It’s important for all Willetton basketball patrons and stakeholders to know that in recent weeks the state basketball community has been meeting and engaging in dialogue regularly with our state sporting body in Basketball WA who in turn liaise with the State Government authorities on the final development of a return to sport guideline document which comprehensively details how a staged return to basketball can be undertaken by all basketball associations whilst implementing a number of key strategies to ensure the health and safety of all stadium users as a number one priority.

This document was submitted last Friday by Basketball WA to the relevant authorities and we eagerly await the outcomes so we can continue to plan for the return of basketball in some capacity in the not too distant future.

As an association we continue to plan and prepare for a number of potential scenarios and our committed staff and volunteer committees are ensuring we will be agile, flexible and able to re-commence our operations in a timely manner once the current restrictions on indoor sporting stadiums are lifted.  We have been advised to expect the resumption will be rolled out in a staged process, just as the restrictions were rolled in back in March.

Having said this it is not a time for our community to become complacent and importantly for coaches and players who are considering commencing a form of non-contact training outdoors in coming weeks, please ensure you all follow the comprehensive BWA guidelines which is available via the website www.willettontigers.com.au and continue to adhere to social distancing and practice strong hygiene and most of all enjoy being active!
