SANFL CEO UPDATE - JAKE PARKINSON

Unfortunately, on Tuesday 24 March 2020, SANFL faced one of its toughest days with the announcement that 80 per cent of our team, as with so many others across Australian society, will be impacted as a result of the significant financial effects of COVID-19.
This included some redundancies and the indefinite standing down of over 50 full-time staff, affecting members of our SANFL Juniors and Community Football teams.
These are incredibly challenging and difficult times, but with prudent financial management we will find a way through.
SANFL is focussed on survival for the organisation, SANFL clubs, Affiliated Leagues and clubs across the entire football community.
Community Football, including SANFL Juniors is crucial to our pathways, competitions and providing a vital social connection for people in local communities. Every club, therefore, will be important when we are able to safely resume playing footy and life returns to normal.
We are committed to being there with you and providing support to ensure all clubs find a way through these uncertain times so together we can recover and be sustainable on the other side.

CLUB FINANCIAL ASSESSMENT TOOL
We appreciate that this is a challenging period for community clubs as they try to understand the impact of COVID-19 and the postponement of community football until 31 May.
We have therefore been working on a tool to help community clubs understand the estimated financial impact as a result of COVID-19 and the subsequent impact on the community football season.
Next week, we will provide community clubs with a tool and accompanying guide which is aimed at helping community clubs estimate their revenue shortfall as a result of COVID-19, estimate and consider ways to reduce expenditure and understand the net impact on the club.
Please ensure your club has updated your club president and treasurer contacts on Sports TG to ensure your club receives this important tool.

LEASE / LICENSE FEES AND UTILITIES COSTS INCURRED BY CLUBS
Even with football postponed, and further to the above, we understand Clubs are still facing significant challenges in meeting ongoing lease/licence fees and utilities costs.
Some Councils have already implemented relief measures for clubs (municipalities of Adelaide, Mitcham and Salisbury for example).
SANFL, AFL, SACA, Cricket Australia and Clubs SA have partnered to make approaches to Government and local government advisory services on the issue. Our aim is guide Council decision making to ensure our Clubs survive the current pandemic.
We encourage Clubs to make direct contact with their Council to discuss your own financial challenges in the short term.
As part of its Jobs Relief Package, the State Government announced on 26 March 2020 the waiver of liquor licence fees for 2020-21 for hotels, restaurants, cafes and clubs forced to close as a result of new social distancing restrictions.
