18 March 2020
Position Summary in response to Coronavirus COVID-19
- All programmed football (and Netball) matches at all clubs in the Mid-West FL are postponed until 31st May, or further notice;
- All football (and Netball) training sessions are recommended to be cancelled until 31st May, or upon further notice;
- The League delegates meeting for late March has been deferred;
- Umpires Director Wade Shepperd has asked that everyone be informed that the umpires course at Minnipa (scheduled for 23 March 20) has been cancelled until further notice.
These decisions are based on recommendations of the SANFL, as part of a national working group including the AFL and other State football bodies which involved a detailed consideration of the situation regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) and follows advice from the Australian Government, World Health Organisation and AFL’s Chief Medical Officers regarding best practice.
This decision has been made in consideration of the challenges it creates, but most importantly the welfare of all players, coaches, umpires, officials, staff, volunteers and families. It could also present issues with liability or similar as well as expose the league and/or clubs to other risks and challenges.
While it is understood that Netball SA, at this stage, have not officially provided direction, given the above information, it is recommended for local level Netball to fall in line with the football postponement given their close alignment with our football clubs.
The Mid West Football League will continue to take direction from the AFL and SANFL and will keep all clubs updated and informed as the situation develops.
Please understand that we have a serious situation to deal with here, with impact at local, state, national and international levels.
If anyone has further questions, please do not hesitate to call myself (0429 772 012) or Greg Scholz (0427 802 171)
