AFL Gippsland Head of Football Richard Black last evening released a statement that read:
“All Senior leagues operating in AFL Gippsland - Season will not commence before Saturday 2nd May 2020 with this date to be reviewed on or before 12th April.”
AFL Vic also released a statement yesterday evening that read “to all AFL and AFL State associations managed or operated leagues and NAB AFL Auskick Centres programs and have advised a postponement of all activities until 31May 2020.”
Both organisations have released their own dates, effectively AFL Gippsland hope that football among Gippsland Leagues can commence before the date recommended by AFL Vic subject to the threat of coronavirus having diminished and the environment healthy.
Therefore AFL Gippsland have decided to proceed with the date of 2nd May which just gives their leagues more flexibility with a possible season start. Richard Black said there will be a review of the date mid-April in conjunction with the Leagues and can make adjustments if required. Richard added at the forefront of any decision will be the health and wellbeing of our players and club members.
