Coronavirus Update - 13 March 2020
Further to the information regarding coronavirus issued on 11 March, please note the following update:
Key Messages
- Hygiene and a vigilant approach to potential symptoms to mitigate risk are critical.
- The situation around coronavirus is changing rapidly and SANFL is in daily communication with the AFL and by extension the Federal Government health authorities to ensure we have the most up to date information.
- SANFL will continue to provide information and advice to all clubs and leagues in South Australia to limit the risk to all players, staff and volunteers.
- On current advice, any trial matches or matches scheduled for this weekend can continue to be played, noting that where possible access to the venue outside of players, officials and staff should be limited.
- Please note: that if Clubs and/or Leagues determine not to proceed and to await further information, that approach is also supported by SANFL.
- SANFL will continue to monitor the situation closely and be guided by the advice of State and Federal Government agencies, as well as the AFL.
- SANFL will provide updates regarding any change to the current status.
Club Environment Hygiene Protocol Recommendations
- Ensure all player facilities are maintained and cleaned to a high standard with appropriate cleaning agents – consider more regular cleaning of facilities.
- Gyms / Changerooms to have sanitising supplies such as sprays and disposable towels
- Hand soap available in all wash areas
- Communal towels (sweat towels/wet towels) etc, should not be used (individual towels or discarding after each use is appropriate).
- Alcohol rub/soap/ tissues should be available (this should be standard), doctors should have their own stocks of masks etc to use if assessment of players required / close contact with players is required.
- Communication (verbal and signage encouraged) to be had with playing groups regarding unhygienic behaviours that put others at risk (i.e. spitting, blowing your nose in your hand, sharing cups, cough etiquette, hand washing etc. It is recommended this occur at all levels and club doctors may be able to support with information regarding this via SA Health links.
