Yanni Wetzell and the San Diego State Aztecs, a week after clinching the Mountain West Conference regular season title, lost 66-63 to University of Nevada Las Vegas. Yanni posted 7 points and 4 rebounds in the loss.
Despite the loss the Aztecs remain at #5 on the Division I national rankings.
St Mary’s Gaels are third on the West Coast Conference standings with a 10-4 record and a #32 ranking nationally after their latest outing where they beat San Diego 92-63. The industrious Dan Fotu scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.
Will Heather scored 8 points and added a couple of rebounds and a block as Dallas Baptist broke a two-game losing skid with an 84-72 win against St Edwards to move to 12-7 in the Lone Star Conference.
Joel Coffey and Webber International University finished sixth in the Sun Conference regular season and now face number three seed St Thomas in the quarter-finals in the play-offs. In his first season with Webber Joel has been a handy contributor averaging 4.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.
