COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS RECOGNISED WITH HIGHEST HONOUR
AFL Victoria has recognised Allan Chandler of the Coburg Districts Football Club for his outstanding voluntarily contribution to football.
Chandler received the State Volunteer of the Year 2008 Award at AFL Victoria’s TAC Cup/VFL Grand Final dinner last Friday at Telstra Dome.
Other finalists included Ross Gould (Murrumbeena Football Club – SFL), Geoff Morgan (Sorrento Football Club - MPNFL), Norm Nugent (Old Paradians Football Club - VAFA) and Tom Donnelly (Chiltern Football Club – Tallangatta and District Football League).
Chandler’s roles at the WRFL club over the past 25 years included trainer, treasurer, team manager, properties manager, fundraiser, club delegate and club secretary.
He is presently in his 13th consecutive year as club president and has also been actively involved in the WRFL Inter League program.
AFL Victoria’s Community Football Development Manager Peter McDougall praised Chandler for his efforts.
"Allan’s contribution to community football over a long period of time has been outstanding and I congratulate him on his award," McDougall said.
As a reward, Chandler was treated to an AFL Grand Final week extravaganza.
He participated in the AFL Grand Final parade, received two nights accommodation over AFL Grand Final weekend, two tickets to the AFL Grand Final and the official luncheon at the MCG.
