Sorrento and Perth Glory get the 2020 NPL Night Series under way this Friday at Percy Doyle Reserve.
Sorrento have brought in a number of new faces to figure in the Night Series. These include 2014 Gold Medal winner Clark Keltie, Graham Tough and Sean Canham from Gwelup Croatia, ECU Joondalup’s Ollie Annis and Brad McDonald, who left the Gulls for ECU in 2018 before moving on to Quinns FC.
The fixture kicks off at 6.30pm and is followed by another Pool Two clash between Balcatta and Armadale.
Balcatta surprised many with a fourth-placed finish in the league last season.
This was built on a solid defence – only champions Perth SC conceded fewer goals. However, they struggled up front and will hope the recruitment of James Harmer from Rockingham City will add firepower.
The third match in Pool Two takes place at Dorrien Gardens on Saturday when 2019 league runners-up Inglewood United face Gwelup.
Gwelup have been strengthening for their first season in the NPL. Former Glory youngsters Ethan Brooks, Nikola Talimdzioski, Callum Timmins and Daniel Stynes, plus Daniel’s brother Jon Stynes (from Floreat Athena) and Cockburn City’s Hasani Sinclair, have joined Taki Nicolaidis’ squad.
This game is at 7pm and comes after the Pool One encounter between Perth SC and ECU Joondalup (5pm).
ECU this week named Perth Glory A-League coach Kenny Lowe as their Director of Football, with head coach Dale McCulloch stepping down.
Also on Saturday, Bayswater City go up against Cockburn at E&D Litis Stadium (5pm). Before that, Floreat Athena – Night Series champions for the past two years – take on Rockingham City (7pm).
Bayswater have striker Luke Salmon back after a year at Perth Glory. Defender Riley Warland has also joined Chris Coyne’s squad from Glory.
