At a General Meeting following the League’s AGM held on Wednesday the 27th of November, the official fixture of the 2020 GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League was ratified.
Highlights of the 2020 fixture include –
- Round 2 - Three games on Good Friday, including two night games and a night game Easter Saturday
- Round 4 – Anzac day games including two night games
- 23rd May – full round bye for interleague football and netball
- Round 13 – split round including a Sunday game on the 5th July
- Round 16 – split round
With the introduction of an Under 16 competition in 2020, game times have been changed to accommodate the extra game. The standard starting time for senior football will now be 2.20pm, unless a change has been negotiated between both competing teams, such as agreed night games.
A full bye will be held on the 23rd May with this date being discussed with the Ovens & Murray FNL to hold Senior and Under 18 football, along with Open and 17 & Under netball, with the exciting clashes to be hosted by the GOTAFE GVL for the first time in four years.
A decision by AFL Victoria to move the Victoria Country representative game from the usual early-mid July date, to the Queen’s Birthday weekend, has forced the League to include a second split round instead of a full bye in July.
GOTAFE GVL Chairman David Roff is pleased with the fixture and is looking forward to another great season in 2020. “As in previous years, clubs received a base fixture and could negotiate night games etc with opposition clubs. We will therefore see five night games in the first four rounds as well as a Sunday game in round 13”, Roff mentioned. “Clubs will again play their local area rivals twice during the season, which is seen by clubs as an important way to bolster attendances.”
