The TRFM Gippsland League’s introduction of an online vote count format has been hailed a huge success, following last night’s launch.
The league’s five junior grade best and fairest award counts were broadcast via Facebook Premiere between 6:00pm and 8:00pm and were met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from member clubs and all corners of the league’s football and netball community.
As of 9:00am today, the five videos had achieved a combined post engagement – comments, likes and shares – of 6237, with an average ‘reach’ of 3622 people per video.
The Under-18 Football Wilkinson Medal count achieved a peak live viewers tally of 323, with other videos peaking on average at 184 live viewers.
At least seven of the league’s 10 member clubs arranged viewing parties, with Moe, Maffra, Sale, Traralgon, Morwell, Bairnsdale and Warragul packing out their respective club social rooms to show the counts on big screens.
Sale Football Netball Club treasurer Scott Pearce was among the first to offer his thoughts on the initiative this morning.
“It was bloody fantastic at our club last night, we had parents and family members all come along for dinner and the kids really got into watching the count. I’m sure it was similar at other clubs,” Peace said.
Maffra Football Netball Club coach Jo Ballinger said the Eagles also had a full room and the new format was well-received.
Traralgon Football Netball Club president Andrew Livingstone said the Maroons enjoyed the night and it was something they would look to grow and promote further in future.
The concept was developed and delivered by TRFM Gippsland League operations manager Daniel Heathcote, who thanked the clubs for embracing the idea and said the encouraging response had justified the decision to try something new.
“Based on feedback and discussions we have had with clubs and members over the past few years we were confident this idea was worth exploring but the reaction has been extremely exciting,” Heathcote said.
“The main aim was to give more people an opportunity to follow the count and for clubs to celebrate the individual achievements of their players as a group.
“It also means those that poll well but ultimately don’t win are not asked to travel from as far as Bairnsdale, Wonthaggi or Drouin for a centralised awards night and that also enables us to invite our winners to attend and celebrate their moment with family or friends.”
The reserves football and C Grade and B Grade netball counts will take place via Facebook Premiere next Thursday night, with the seniors football and A Grade netball counts reserved for the league’s annual awards presentation night on Monday, 16 September.
