A goal from American striker Uriel Macias meant Armadale ended their season with a 1-0 win against ECU Joondalup at Alfred Skeet Reserve.

The result guaranteed completely Armadale's safety, although bottom club Stirling Lions faced an all but impossible task of overhauling John O'Reilly's side.

It was the visitors who were on top early and Tommy Amphlett’s glancing header flashed wide before Sam Hutchings pushed away Ollie Annis’ free kick.

Then in their first attack Armadale won a penalty. Chad Nilson was brought down in the box and referee Steven Gregory pointed straight to the spot. Lawson sent Johnny Perkins the wrong way but the ball smacked the base of the post and away to safety.

ECU lifted after that escape and Amphlett’s shot on the turn crashed off the post, before former Armadale defender Billy Quinncroft fluffed his lines by missing from close range after good work from Josh Whitmore.

The visitors went close again three minutes from half time, Knowles picking out Whitmore whose curling effort beat Hutchings only for the crossbar to come to the keeper's to his rescue.

ECU continued to dictate terms after the break Knowles’ shot on the run was well saved by Hutchings, before Shane Cassidy headed wide from Quinncroft’s cross.

But on 68 minutes Armadale found the opener. A corner wasn’t dealt with and Macias pounced to fire home from close range.

ECU pressed late on for the equaliser and Lukas De Lima fired wide when well placed, while Armadale went close to a second when skipper Nathan Costello’s header flashed wide.

The loss ended a poor season for Dale McCulloch’s side, and they finished the season second bottom of the table with only relegated Stirling Lions below them.
