Hawks too strong accross the ground all day for the plucky Roosters!
Final minor round matches for season 2019, with finals set last weekend.
The Bulldogs held off a very determined Tiger outfit at Fortress Kyancutta. Nothing in it all day as the teams split by 5 points only at full time, the biggest margin at any break! Clint Winter again supurb leading the way for the ‘dogs, two weeks in a row, silky smooth skills and blistering speed! Big movers Jesse Stinger, Kane Sampson, Jake Sampson & Ty Mc Kenna all in the best and the Bulldogs finishing the season nicely for a tilt at their favourite time of the year. Tassie Fitzgerald with 4 goals and another good performance by big “Pin” Grocke with a couple of goals and an excellent target.
Charlie Williams leading the best at Tigerland, a great year from the speedster and his talents will be needed in finals, Callum Cook back in the side after injury, second game back and getting back to his most damaging self, Broadie Grocke, flying in from Melbourne after brother Kade’s AFL debut on Friday night and no worse for the travel, Thomas Lee and Braydn Hedley-King playing great matches.
The Tigers live to fight another day and will be hoping for a finals match up with the ‘dogs to square the season ledger 2/2, the Maggies to negotiate first. Centrals for their part enter finals playing good footy and are well versed in what it takes to win big matches this time of year, the Centrals boys have been quietly building!
Wudinna United win at home but not before a scare, being behind at the first three breaks, sealing the win late. Oh what could have been at Bomberland, so many close ones have got away in 2019! Wudinna United still settling places in the side, and really had to battle for this. Dan Foster another big game, his poise and reading of the play is excellent, he is a big key for the Magpies, Cody Boylan right up there with Dan, either in the air or on the ground, Izaac Boylan keeps getting it and working his magic, Jonty Seal and Ian Jericho excellent as they have been all year and Tyson Jackson back in the thick of things after his offshore hiatus, a big in for finals action!
Ryan Watson leading the charge for the Bombers, always plays well at Wudinna Oval, prolific possession winner and works so hard, Ryleigh Myles a great captains game, great skills and wins the tough footy in and under. Matt Kelsh on the ball in everything, Dan Theunans an effective big man all day and Julian Dickson plenty of rebound. Missing here is usual best regular Mitch Gum, who hit the ground hard and appears to have been concussed, a trip to hospital. Best wishes to Mitch, he is a marquee player in the league, great on and off the field.
Jonty Seal with four goals a target for Wudinna United, with Simon Webb and Dion Pittaway leading the Bomber scoring with two each.
The Bombers retire now with thoughts that they have challenged everyone. Wudinna United meet Western Districts in the cut throat 1st Semi next Sunday at Wirrulla.
The mighty Hawks tune up at Roosterland, decisive 152 point winners giving due notice on how they rebound from a rare loss. Hawks pulling away at every change and winners everywhere. Jake McEvoy heading a star studded list of best players, back this week after a work accident layoff and rearing to go. Dillon Montgomerie back in, Jack Burton continuing his outstanding form, Jess Kenny in everything, Mark Dolling back this week also, seven goals and sets up so many more. Another complete team effort and straight into a second semi next week, no weeks rest as per normal.
Elliston have competed well through the year having lost many players from last years triumph and heavy loads carried at the top. Steve Paul, Ross Bascomb, Matt Williams, Josh Redden are in the best every week, Jack Bascomb a good target and played with energy, Kyle Grant-Cook works hard each week. Young players getting valuable senior game time and coach Butch Tree must feel pround of the efforts of these young troops.
Roosters retire from 2019 and the Hawks fly on with business in mind. Straight to the second semi final next week, no week break as is normally the case, however this will work in Hawks favour this year given the recent games missing by key players - working (mainly!). Central Eyre, a Hawk nemesis in recent times so nothing will be taken for granted at the Hawk Nest despite their stellar season!
