The Hume Dhelk Dja Regional Action Group and ‘The Apprenticeship Factory’ Kyabram District League (KDL) unveiled their Indigenous Round playing apparel the 2019 NAIDOC Dinner on the 10 of July ahead of this weekend’s KDL Indigenous Round.
Designed by Jirri Jirri Art and Design and manufactured by Loco Sportswear, the jumpers and dresses will be worn by all players across all 15 clubs and is the first of it’s kind in a regional league in Victoria.
‘The Apprenticeship Factory’ KDL President, Fraser Kerrins praised Tracy Hardie at the Hume Dhelk Dja Action Group for all of her hard work and energy in collating this event together with the ‘Say No To Violence Round’ that was also a showcase for the League last month.
“The League is absolutely delighted to be involved in such a monumental event and the only league across the state to have an indigenous round with all participants to be wearing the indigenous designed apparel is something we are so proud of.” commented Fraser.
“Our long-term partnership with Dhelk Dja Action Group is so very important to the League and a big thankyou to all of our clubs for embracing and supporting the League together, to instil and celebrate Indigenous culture across our communities” reiterated Fraser.
The AFL have been supporters of this type of event for many years now where the Indigenous Round has taken off on a national level with great success and AFL Goulburn Murray’s Region General Manager, Jamie Macri was so pleased to see what a wonderful job Tracy, Dhelk Dia Regional Action Group, Fraser and all the clubs have
done to make this all happen here in our region.
“Nothing this big has ever been done across an AFL Victoria Country Region before. The body of work that has been completed by all has been amazing. The support from the KDL board and clubs has been outstanding and I know how privileged they feel to be a part of the Indigenous Round Showcase.”
