SANFL Statewide Volunteer of the Year

Nominations are now open for SANFL’s Statewide Super Volunteer of the year for 2019. The award acknowledges the tireless work put in by volunteers at football clubs across the state.
Finalists will attend the Magarey Medal and Hall of Fame Presentation Dinner at Adelaide oval as recognition for their generous efforts.
The winner will receive the AFL’s matching award, and two tickets to the AFL grand final in September.
Last years finalists are busying themselves in another season, and Adrian Wait is no exception. A volunteer at Peake & Districts football club, Adrian has been involved with the club all his life.
His exhaustive role has evolved into head trainer, committee member, equipment coordinator, game day manager and mentor since finishing his playing days some 15 years ago.
“I’m there from 9am to 6:30 every Saturday across the four grades,” he says, referring to the junior and older ‘colts’, plus the two senior A and B grade sides in the Mallee Football League.
As if to highlight the vital work that he does, this season it is proving tough to find volunteers to eventually replace him, and injuries are mounting.
“There’s not many coming through. I’ll help anyone interested get involved, especially the next generation,” Adrian says.
There are countless others selflessly giving time crucial to local footy clubs’ successes. If you know a deserving volunteer at your club, nominate them at www.sanfl.com.au/volunteer Nominations close Sunday August 4.

Road Safety Round | July 20
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
This weekend, July 20th, will be the 5th annual Road Safety Round.
Road Safety Round focuses on raising awareness of road safety particularly for the country football community with many players, support staff and spectators travelling long distances for games.
While we are transitioning our partnership from MAC to the new entity, charged with delivering the road safety messaging, the message remains as important as ever.
As such SANFL encourage all clubs to use this weekends round to continue to draw awareness to road safety issues and provide the opportunity for clubs impacted by road trauma to reflect and remember.
Unfortunately we wont have Game Changer Medals in 2019 however clubs can continue promoting the message through the wearing of black arm bands and other ceremonial messaging as carried out over the past 4 years.

Central Zone claimed its first SA Country Championship since 2013 with a comprehensive win against Northern Zone in the Grand Final on Sunday.
Winning their third title since the Championship’s inception in 1994, the Eagles won by a comfortable margin of 60 points as former North Adelaide star Leigh Ryswyk played his way toward a three-way tie for the Don McSweeny Medal as Player of the Championships.
Ryswyk was joined by Western Zone pair Xavier Watson and Sidney Masters, with the former captaining his side to victory last year and the latter winning the Goalkicking Award with seven for the tournament.
Central Zone coach and former SA Country mentor Steve Lubcke was a fitting recipient of the Bill Murdoch Medal as coach of the carnival while Eastern’s Troy Parker-Boers was recognised as the Best Under-21 Player.
Southern Districts avenged its loss in last year’s Women’s title-decider, this time cruising to a comfortable 33-point win in the Grand Final against Northern.
Coach of the Southern Districts side, Kiefvar Zohar, claimed honours as Women’s Coach of the Championships while Central Zone’s Tegan Nottle was awarded the Player of the Championships crown as well as being selected on the wing in the Women’s Team of the Championships.

Toyota Good for Footy Raffle

|
|
|
The Toyota Good for Footy Raffle is back, bigger and better in 2019.
This year, we’ve gone digital, aiming to raise more money for more clubs than ever before. We want football lovers everywhere to be part of the action by registering their club to sell tickets and raise real money. And we want local communities to get behind their clubs, by buying tickets online for the chance to win one of ten incredible prizes. Everyone’s a winner with the Good for Footy Raffle!
Last year we helped 365 grassroots clubs raise more than $620,000. That money was used to upgrade facilities, buy new equipment, subsidise playing fees and to make the game a little more accessible for all. So let’s beat that record and aim high - we want to raise a cool $1 million for clubs around the country.

Not-for-profit treasurers have to get the basics right. There's no room for flimflam, big talk, or massaging the figures. The money just has to be there - or everybody misses out. We owe treasurers a lot.
Most treasurers are untiring, painstaking, and efficient. They work long hours without asking for thanks or recognition. They keep the group afloat.
Every community organisation understands how much they owe to the person who keeps track of the finances. But they don't often tell them so. Our Community and the Commonwealth Bank and their Not-for-Profit Sector Banking team believe Australia's treasurers deserve some recognition.
The Commonwealth Bank Not-for-Profit Treasurers' Awards are designed to provide that recognition.
