Inglewood United put themselves in the reckoning for a top-four finish with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.

Harry Evans opened the scoring for the visitors in only the fourth minute and it proved the deciding factor in a match where both sides struggled to create chances.

Inglewood now sit in fifth position on the NPL WA table, level on points with Balcatta and Bayswater who are fourth and third respectively.

This might prove an important three points for Andres Oliveira’s side as the race for a Top Four Cup spot heats up with only five points separating second and seventh.

The opener came when Brian Woodall lost his marker and put in a great cross which Evans turned home.

Shubham Mokala looked to equalise for Balcatta when he cut inside but he couldn’t find the target from the edge of the box.

There were very chances for either team so when Balcatta were presented with a corner in the 65th minute they knew this was a big opportunity. But Alex Castiello could only head straight into the gloves of Inglewood keeper Alex Dunn.

Balcatta were getting frustrated as Inglewood saw the match out and it culminated in Adam Zimarino being shown a red card in the 76th minute after a reckless challenge.

Both teams had half-chances late on as Balcatta pushed men forward searching for the elusive equaliser which allowed Inglewood space in behind.

But neither team could capitalise and it was Inglewood who were celebrating at the full time whistle.
