Inter league football break over and back to the business of home and away football. Mid West has passed the half way mark of the season, only seven more rounds until finals! The Hawks way out front, but a cramped ladder thereafter.
Boil over at the Magpies nest, with the home team taking the chocolates by four goals is a hard fought match. A relief for the Magpies, last time they beat their neighbourly Bulldog was the 1st Semi Final – 20 August 2011, so not far off of eight years! Good players from both sides throughout, Jack Lange across the backline for the Maggies leading the way, Izaac Boylan in everything, marking, long goals and around the ground, Matt Greatbatch another big game close to the clashes, strong body and quick hands, Ian Jericho at centre half back and enviable task of standing ‘Dog champ Kane Sampson for much of the day, Tom Dupree good all day in the ruck manly, Jonty Seal many high marks and big target all day. Henry Zwar and Josh Mitchell entertaining the crowd with high leaping aerial action, plenty more contributors across the ground.
Wonderful game by Corey Waters, his star is well on the rise, superbly skilled and quick off the mark, Jared Sampson a typical well poised game, silky disposal skills and always damaging around the contest, Jesse Stringer hard and tough, can anyone hold this bloke in a tackle? Huge tank and work ethic, Clint Winter getting back to his best, fast across the ground and creative with the football, Brodi Grocke, ruck duties for much of the day, and well in the play when the ball hits the ground. Kane Sampson another strong hard at it match, back up forward this week and outstanding match up with Ian Jericho, the master vs the up and comer! Tyler Chapman clever with his body use man on man, many marks and uses the ball well, Jake Sampson his usual captains game and Chandler May playing a solid four quarter match.
The Top vs Second clash at Poochera didn’t go down to the line as hoped, the Hawks too hot to handle again, 92 point winners over the Tigers at Poochera. Margin blowing out in the last quarter with the Hawks fve goals to nil. Maybe closer on the ground but the Hawks efficiency around goal telling.
Hawks big guns out in force, although the usual whole of team contribution. Jess Kenny leading the way, playing in the middle he is having an outstanding year, Jake Mc Evoy with four goals and a go to target, Dylan Kelsh again in the ruck, so difficult to counter for any opposition, Nick Schumann hard worker and loves a contest, Braden Holmes five goals, retaining his leadership in the League goal kicking. Good to see Hawks youngsters getting game time, this week Declan Edmunds stepping up with three goals, even seasoned veteran back pocket Kirk Montgomerie sneaking past the Tiger defence (catching his own team mates napping) to notch a major.
The Districts boys know that they are in the hunt this year, but this must be a learning match, no one can win the flag in 2019 unless they can mix it with the Hawks! Broadie Chandler leading the Tiger best, tough, hard and athletic in the middle, Charlie William’s wonderful season goes on, winning the footy all over the ground , Joe Williams plenty to do in defence, and great all match, Zane Montgomerie continuing his great form, Scotty Feltus in the thick of it also.
The Roosters travelled to Bomberland, acquitting themselves well in the long road trip, but the Wirrulla boys too strong over the four quarters. The Wirrulla boys are hanging in the season well, good win sets themselves with a realistic expectation of finals, and they have also been the Hawks closest challenger.
Simon Webb outstanding with seven goals and closing in on a regain of the League Leading goal kicker, one away! Matt Kelsh again showing what an asset he is since returning. Great hands, and strong. Waylon Drew high in the best, fast across the ground and highly skilled, Hustle and bustle of champion Ryan Watson valuable, he is having another great season, Ben Brown rounding out the best.
The Roosters best served by Sam Cassanova, big recruit to the club and in the best most weeks, Dale Bache another new player providing great value. Thomas Bascomb, strong in the air and works hard, Matt Williams hard work and creative.
