The final Gippsland Physiotherapy Group 25-man squad to compete in the Worksafe Community Championships has been named with all 10 TRFM Gippsland League sides being represented for the first time in a number of years.
Coach Steve Kidd trimmed the original 35 man training squad down to 25 after the first session. Some players had to withdraw from injuries sustained during the weekends matches including 2018 captain Cade Maskell who has a hamstring strain. Kidd has selected two emergencies for the side that will both travel with the team.
The side boasts youth and talent which has been specially picked to take on the Northern opponents. Several players will make their TRFM Gippsland League debuts off the back of strong early season form including Morwell pair Kuiy Jiath and Anthony Rosato, Maffra's Hudson Holmes and Moe's Dylan Farrell.
Overall the side boasts fourteen TRFM Gippsland League debutants with balancing experience in the form of Bob McCallum (8 Interleague appearances overall), Russell Cowan (6 appearances overall), Jordan Dessent (5 appearances GL), Chris Dunne (5 appearances GL) and Mark Collison (4 appearances GL) all will give vital leadership to the side. The 2019 side will feature eight representatives from the 2018 winning side.
The players will be presented with their jumpers tomorrow night after the final training by members of the victorious 1979 Victorian Championships Division one side. The jumper pays tribute to this team that was crowned Victoria's best and is a replica of the uniform worn during that campaign.
