The 2019 Sal’s National Basketball League (NBL) is well underway with a number of current and former Harbour representative players on show.

Following his Player of the Round performance last week when he averaged 18.5 points across two games Rob Loecame within a rebound of a double double as the Wellington Saints registered a 91-86 come from behind victory in Hobart against the Sothern Huskies. The Tall Blacks centre, who has just re-signed with the Breakers for the 2019-2020 Australian NBL season finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds as the Saints registered a fifth straight win.

Seven days earlier in Hobart Scott Telferwas involved in a piece of New Zealand sporting history recently - he featured in the first New Zealand NBL game ever to be played on an overseas court. The Supercity Rangers travelled to Tasmania where after a brave fight they eventually succumbed 84-68 to the Southern Huskies. 

Kruz Perrott-Hunt, back from a tour of China with the Junior Tall Blacks, made his second NBL appearance for the Nelson Giants. In his first outing he scored 8 points for the Giants against Taranaki and repeated that number on Saturday as the Giants beat Supercity Rangers 95-77. Kruz added 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a pair of steals for good measure. Scott Telfer scored 5 points for the Rangers.

Alex Talmahas begun his post NCAA collegiate career with the Canterbury Rams in solid form averaging 7 points and 6 rebounds per game. However the former Biola University power forward wasn’t able to match those numbers in the Rams 89-81 win against the Hawks last Thursday at Cowles Stadium. He finished with just 2 points and 2 rebounds after fouling out in under 12 minutes.

In the same game Jarrod Kenny, leading the league in assists this season with close to eight dimes per game, scored 10 points for the Hawks. Now in his tenth season with the Hawks Jarrod added 3 rebounds and 4 assists.

In other news former Harbour and Westlake forward Yanni Wetzellwill complete his NCAA college career at San Diego State University. Yanni has transferred from Vanderbilt University.

Also transferring is former representative teammate Matt Freeman. Matt is moving from the University of Oklahoma to the University of California, Santa Barbara.

UC Santa Barbara play in the Big West Conference and San Diego State compete in the Mountain West Conference.

Still with college basketball Olivia Bell has graduated from junior College and will play the final two years og her NCAA eligibility at the University of West Alabama. Olivia has spent the last two years at North Dakota State college of Science.
