Captain Kidner Torches Flames

Women’s Captain Amy Kidner made an emphatic statement in her 150th game for the Chambers Franklyn Joondalup City Wolves in their 30-point win over Rockingham Flames.

Kidner scored 15 points and snatched a huge 17 rebounds in the milestone game to lead the Wolfpack to their 84-54 win.

Coach Charles Nix said, “Amy’s been a stalwart at the club… being our captain and our leader she’s been amazing since I’ve been here, for us to rally together and play a great brand of basketball for her was fantastic.”

Kayla Steindl again had a strong performance with 18 points and 11 rebounds including scoring three three-pointers from four attempts.

It was Steindl’s sixth double-double in seven games.

The first quarter was a back and forth battle with neither team leading by more than five points.

Rockingham had the tight lead out of the first quarter at 18-19.

The game started with some scrappy possessions and the referees got involved early, leading to the question of whether the Wolves could play their aggressive defence without fouling.

The answer came in the second quarter with the Wolves outscoring the Flames 22-5 and taking a 16-point lead at half time.

Georgia Denehey put up seven points in the second quarter, while Kayla had 12 for the half.

The second half was more of the same from the Wolves, clamping down on defence in the half court as well meeting the Flames at the rim on multiple possessions, swatting six shots for the game.

Mikayla Pirini was the third of the Wolves Women to get into double figures, scoring 11 for the game on 50% from the field.

Another huge performance came from Amber Land who snatched 14 rebounds with her eight points, leading to not only a 30-point lead on the scoreboard but outrebounding the Flames 63-33. Janelle Adams top-scored for Rockingham with 14 points.

This win puts Joondalup into first with six wins and only one loss.

Wolfpack Basketball returns to HBF Arena following the Easter long weekend on Friday April 26 when both Wolves teams take on the East Perth Eagles.

Flames Too Hot for Wolfpack

The Chambers-Franklyn Joondalup City Wolves Men’s team couldn’t overcome the height of the Rockingham Flames, beaten 92-98 last Thursday evening.

Earnest Ross Jr had another huge performance in the team's loss, scoring 33 points as well as pulling 11 rebounds and dishing out six assists.

The side were missing starting centre Rob Huntington against a tall Flames side, resting a lot on the shoulders of Kevin Davis who stepped up big.

When asked about a huge-statment dunk, Coach Ben Ettridge said, “that’s what Kevin does, we know that, we’ve just got to put him in those spots as much as we can… Kevin was outstanding tonight.”

Davis scored 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and another huge defensive performance with three steals and three blocks.

Despite KD stepping up, the Flames big men were too much for a Wolves forced to play small with Import Josh Ritchart scoring 26 points and veterans Chudier Pal and Greg Hire both industrious.

Usual Wolfpack three-point weapon, Ridell Camidge, was taken out of the game with foul trouble, hurting the Wolves perimeter game.

The game started with both teams having to work for their offence and neither team being able to break away.

There were a few fouls called early on both sides and a handful of emphatic slams. KD’s big dunk was the Wolves first field goal of the game, while taking the contact and hitting the free throw.

Davis had seven in the quarter and a huge block on former Wolves player Greg Hire.

The second quarter was also sparked by KD with another rejection leading to the first score of the quarter for Joondalup.

The Wolves managed to take the lead midway through the second, but the Flames brought it back, taking the lead 47-49 at half time.

Davis, the Wolfpack's best, had 15 first half points and EJ had 12.

Joondalup continued to fight through the third quarter but couldn’t hold off the Rockingham offence who stretched the lead to nine heading into the fourth quarter, 69-78.

Ross put up 12 third quarter points putting him on 24, with five rebounds and four assists heading into the final term.

While the Wolves clawed back in the fourth quarter, they couldn’t bring the lead below four points, despite some late missed free throws from Hire.

The Flames ended up closing out the game by six points, 92-98.

As well as Ross and Davis putting up big numbers, Damian Matacz and Trian Iliadis both got into double figures scoring 11 each.

The Wolves Men will look to break through this home court rough patch with a victory against the East Perth Eagles this Friday night.
