Resilient Rocky move into 5th

Resilient Rocky move into 5th.

Report by Kelechi Osunwa

Rockingham City made it three wins on the bounce with a resilient 1-0 win over Sorrento in yesterday’s National Premier League Western Australia fixture at Saferad Stadium.

The fixture was billed as an intriguing context pre-match with both sides on the back of strong performances but the first half was all Rockingham.

Jason Pottier stung the palms of Sorrento custodian James Morgan and Jason Constable’s overlapping runs proved a handful but Rockingham lacked that final touch and pass at times.

It wasn’t until the end of the half that James Millard gave the hosts the lead following deft passing combinations from Sam McKernan, Victor Brauner and Pottier

Sorrento got back in the game with the double substitutions of Alex Morgan and Jordan Roberts in the second half as Cameron Teece received more support up front.

Sorrento pressed higher up the pitch and looked dangerous from set pieces with Steven McDonald heading wide and a goal mouth scramble seeing a half chance cannon off the crossbar.

The game took a turn late when City goalkeeper Cyril Sharrock was sent off for what referee Joshua Nixon later disclosed to have been for violent conduct.

Sorrento made one last push but Rockingham held firm to claim their third win on the bounce to climb up to fifth in the ladder.
