Floreat put aside Cockburn

Floreat put aside Cockburn

Report by Samuel Hays

Floreat Athena have got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Cockburn City in Round 6 of the NPL WA on Saturday at E&D Litis Stadium.

Second half goals to Phillip Arnold and Luka Ninkovic ensured all three points for Floreat after a slow start from both sides.

But the home side came out firing after the break as Arnold got on the end of a cross to the back post and drilled his shot past keeper Luke Radonich after 49 minutes.

Ninkovic wasted a good opportunity at goal before Calvin Whitney forced Radonich into a great save from close range.

However, the second goal would come in the 78th minute when substitute Ninkovic controlled the ball with his chest before blasting it into the net.

Floreat will be glad to end a four match winless streak and claim just their second win of the season.

While for the Cockerels, the loss sees them down to tenth on the table with just one win from six matches.

Floreat will take on high-flying Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve next week while Cockburn will face fellow cellar dweller Stirling Lions at home.
