Flashy Port Melbourne forward Robin Nahas’ star continues to rise.
This season, he booted 48 goals (equal fifth on the goal kicking ladder) for the Borough, helping his side climb to the top of the VFL ladder.
He played in all 20 home and away matches following on from 21 games in 2007, when he booted 21 goals.
Not just a skilled goalsneak, Nahas’ work rate off the ball and forward pressure has seen his overall game shoot skywards.
This was duly recognised with a Victorian jumper in May. Although the VFL was beaten by the SANFL in the state game, Nahas stood up kicking four goals to win the Frank Johnson Medal as Victoria’s best player.
His ability to find the big sticks after weaving through traffic is sure to have enthused AFL scouts.
Last year’s winner Shane Valenti has seen his career blossom this season. He was AFL Rookie-listed by Melbourne last year and Valenti appeared in nine AFL games averaging 17 disposals.
Other Fothergill-Round Medallists since 1989 include Aaron Davey – a player similar in stature to Nahas, Michael Firrito, Mark Porter and Ron Delulio.
AFL Victoria CEO Peter Schwab said Nahas had been an exciting player to watch in the VFL this year.
"Certainly a key to Port Melbourne’s finals chances and I would expect a few AFL clubs to look closely at him," Schwab said.
