Alex Talma and Denhym Brooke went head to head in the PacWest Conference

The NCAA Division II PacWest contest between Biola University Eagles and Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans featured a couple of former Harbour forwards going head to head.  The Eagles, helped by 11 points and 8 rebounds from Alex Talma, staged a stunning fightback to defeat Denhym Brooke and the Vulcans 79-77.

Biola trailed 48-29 at half-time but piled in 50 points in the second half to snatch the win and jump ahead of Hilo on the conference ladder with an 8-7 record. The Eagles are 12-9 overall this season and have already surpassed last year’s win total.

Denhym filled the stats line both against Biola and also a couple of days later in the 68-63 loss against Academy of Art. Across the two games he averaged 6.5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and a steal but the losses meant Hilo slipped back to a 7-8 record.

In Division II women’s play Georgia Perrott-Hunt (7 points) was a perfect 3 from 3 from the field but Tiffin University were thumped 95-67 by Trevecca Nazarene and slip to 4-13 in the Great Midwest Conference. Georgia is also to be congratulated for making the recently published Dean's List at Tiffin - the list recognises academic achievement.

In the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference Akiene-Tera Reed’s 9 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists helped Virginia Commonwealth to a 58-37 win against Richmond - VCU top of the conference table boasting a 10-1 record.

In a high octane Men’s Division I encounter between the number two and three ranked American college teams it was Duke University that prevailed beating Virginia 81-71. Jack Salt produced 6 points and two’s in rebounds, assists and steals as Virginia (8-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, 20-2 overall) slipped to its second loss of the season – both against Duke.

Oklahoma Sooners were just 3 from 16 from 3-point range in its 59-53 loss at Baylor University. One of those triples was from the hand of Matt Freeman, the former Westlake marksman finishing with 5 points as the Sooners, 3-9 in the Big 12 Conference, lost its fourth straight game.
