The official 2019 GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League fixture has now been released. Clubs have once again, had an opportunity over the last couple of months, to negotiate time and day changes to the fixture.
The League will showcase six night games in the first four rounds. There will be two games played on Good Friday, including the regular night game between Shepparton and Shepparton United, whilst Benalla will take on Seymour at 2pm. The clash between Shepparton United and Mooroopna will take place on ANZAC day, being a Thursday in 2019, with a 6pm start.
Echuca and Mansfield will also be able to capitalise on holiday crowds when they host games at Easter and on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. A Sunday game is scheduled for round 14 between Kyabram v Rochester, with General Byes on the 18th May (Community Champs) and the 13th July (Vic Country game) and a split round in August, Round 16. We will see more rivalry rounds as requested by clubs and the Grand Final is booked in for Sunday the 22nd September.
GOTAFE GVL Chairman David Roff, is once again pleased with the fixture and the way clubs have been able to negotiate the scheduling.
“Many of our clubs like to create stand-alone games in the fixture, whether that be night games or Sunday games. These games typically lead to larger gates and greater income opportunities which we will see again in 2019”, Roff mentioned.
“The major focus for clubs was the request for more ‘rivalry rounds’ during the year which will be beneficial for gates and exciting for football and netball games across our league” said Roff.
“The negotiated changes to the 2019 fixture result in a healthy balance for all, with six night games in the first four rounds to take advantage of the pleasant Autumn evenings, whilst the two Good Friday games will make for an exciting spread of football and netball over the Easter weekend. It’s also great to see two arch rivals in Shepparton United and Mooroopna coming together to pay homage to our ANZACs by playing on ANZAC day with the full support of the Shepparton RSL sub-branch,” Roff added.
