On defence, the team goal is to deny the opposition the opportunity to score... quite an important job during a highly competitive game!

If you're a coach seeking some additional ideas and keen to expand your knowledge come along and learn while networking with like-minded coaches and bouncing ideas off each other.

Why not attend some coaching courses aimed at teaching you the best techniques, sharing ideas and supplying you with the right knowledge to be the best coach you can be?  Course content has been compiled by experts from Netball New Zealand and even offer the chance to gain recognised accreditation for your efforts.

In an effort to support coaches while you gain traction this season this Defence 1 coach course will focus on

• explaining and demonstrating phases of defence - 1st phase (open/closed marking and moving around a stationery player), 2nd phase (pressure on the ball), 3rd phase (restrictive marking)
• demonstrate an understanding of how to intercept a pass or create an intercept while marking one on one. 
• explain, demonstrate and reflect on how players learn and make decisions when on defence

Attendees will also discuss the stages of motor skill learning and how these  relate to coming to grips with the phases of defence.  Pick up ideas on how to measure success when observing players on defence and the ability to provide constructive specific feedback and work-ons.  Come along and gain some handy drill ideas and learn how to effectively implement them in the hopes of turning your players into a strong defensive team.

While this workshop is geared towards the netball code and is Netball New Zealand accredited, general concepts may also be applied to other sports.  We therefore welcome attendees from other sporting codes should there be interest.  We'd like to help you prepare as best you can to allow both you and your team to have a highly enjoyable learning experience for seasons to come.
