The successful mpve from Northwood to the HCC (Hagley Carlton Corner)has been met with approval from all clubs. The first two rounds has seen a lot more players involved per club with decent bench sizes, which means more rotations and faster play. Attracting older experienced players back to the game and enticing new players to pull on the boots has given AFL in Canterbury a good shot in the arm that was needed,
With 18 on the field we have seen bench sizes of 6 or 8 even 10. As our sport grows we will need to address bench sizes to keep newcomers interested and allow time for them to learn the game.
The competition has evened out across all four teams.
The Bulldogs have been doiminant and undefeated for two and a bit seasons BUT the Blues posted their first win over the Bulldogs since 2015 on the weekend and now they've won three on the trot - the first time in a long time for the Blues. And finally they have a club song (Carltons) thanks to Carson Pullyblank, which the team is slowly learning. Very entertaining after the games Guys.
The Bulldogs are to be congratulated for setting the bar for onfield play and off-field socially. They've been missing there "Super Coach" Zac Williams on marital duties but he is coming back this week to "right the ship."
They have a big clash this week with round 2 of the Terry Anderson Shield against the University Cougars. The Dogs have one hand on the "The Tezza" winning round 1 by 10 points but the Cougars who have never won the shield in its 10 year history are chomping at the bit to take the reigning Premiers down.
Meanwhile the leagues Party club The Eagles are celebrating their 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY on the 29th of September. So if you've ever pulled on the Green and Yellow Jersey or joined in the boat races make sure your at the HCC to join in the festivities and aftermatch function at the Redwood Bar for the AFL Grandfinal.
See Sweaty for details.
Also a MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to the Pullyblanks - surely the Most Valuable Family - CAFL have. Carson and Dev run the Kiwi Kick from 10am each Saturday which they have been getting over 40 young players active in the game. Brother and sister Ash and Ella participate in the Kiwi kick and Mum Hayley volunteers as a goal umpire. With family support like that the game is in a good space to grow and succeed.
Well done All.
Get ya kicks at the footy
