Janita Badon set to lead the All Stars

The Collingwood All Stars are delighted to announce the return of elite point guard Janita Badon as the Head Coach – and starting player – of the Collingwood All Stars Big V Women’s team in 2019.

Janita is well remembered for her standout 2017 Big V season with the All Stars – accolades that year included League Leading Scorer (25.5ppg), Golden Hands (6.9pg), League MVP nominee and All Star Five.

“I can’t wait to return to the All Stars and be with my former teammates and good friends,” Janita said. “The All Stars is a very special Club – I’m especially looking forward to working alongside the many talented girls and young women who are coming through the All Stars’ ranks.”

Janita’s previous experience includes a four year stint as captain of the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, United States) basketball team and time with UE Mataro (Spain) and Melbourne University in Big V.

Janita’s accomplishments at the University of Utah are many. She finished her career ranking third all-time with 578 assists, second all-time with 235 steals, fourth all-time in average assists (4.5) and fourth in defensive rebounds (550). Her career total of 1,136 points places her 16th all-time at the University of Utah.

Janita has coached for several years at College level in the US, as well as youth and high school teams.

“We are thrilled to welcome back Janita to the All Stars as a playing coach,” said Club President Tony Corr. “Janita made a major contribution to the All Stars community in 2017, and she is the perfect person to lead our women’s programme and further develop the enormous women’s talent at the Club.”

The Club wishes to recognise the efforts of Joe Borg who is not continuing as our Big V Women’s coach after leading the team for its first two seasons. The Club was very fortunate to have such an experienced and accomplished coach and the All Stars wish him the best.

Our special thanks also to Jada Buggs, our Big V Women’s import in 2018. Jada’s performance on the court speaks for itself where she was a dominant force. She was also a popular member of our community and has a bright future as a professional player.

There will be more exciting Big V announcements to come.
